I would not call you pessimistic. You are SELFISH. Sure you do not share the same enthu because this announcement does not offer you anything. Grow up and feel for others. Everyone knows that there will be a backlog and that is an issue we have to deal with once we get there.

If they can't get to file this month, they have to wait for another 6 yrs before visas become available. What will happen to new filers who plan to file GC soon. They have to wait forever.

First of all, we would like to know whether your wife is pregnant or you are trying to know all the possible option for pregnancy.
If you are trying to know the option,
1) you can choose any individual health insurance provider(like blue cross or Aetna or State Farm etc) with maternity option. They expect to have coverage for 18 months before they accept any claims on maternity.
2) Also, ensure that the health insurance provider is coverage in complete US. Some of them have coverage only in west coast or tri state or midwest etc. In case of IT job, we can relcoate anywhere in US.
If pregnant, try these options.
a) Try to change to another employer who have GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE. Group health insurance cover pre-existing condition and hence no need to worry. Take HIGH premium option so that out-of-pocket is less and your expenses are less.
b) If you cannot change the employer, visit the reasonable cost hospitals around your neighbourhood , talk to the billing staff and ask for discounts. Usually, they give 30% discounts on the total cost. Otherwise, you can talk to the management staff(or write a letter) and get around 30-40% discount.
c) Ensure that you always visit the hospital, doctors, ob/gyn who are covered under your insurance provide network. Though your wife is not covered under maternity, they will work with their network doctor to get the discounted rate. Once you get that rate, ask for additional discount. Surely, you will get around 20-30% discount.
d) Based on my experience, here are the expenses cost....
ob/gyn - around 8k (prenatal to delivery)
pediatrician - around 1k ( from child birth to 2 month)
delivery expenses - around 8k (normal delivery)
- around 18 k ( c section)
scanning expenses - around 3k( depends on the conditions - sometimes, they
expect weekly scanning during 9th month).
Govt provides financial aid provide the total house income is less than 25k which
will not work for any IT professional.
As the expenses are HIGH, join some GOOD company for atleast 2 months, get their group health insurance and then quit and come back to your original company. After you
quit that company, you can use the COBRA option and get the maternity coverage.

I-485s Not Tracked by Priority Date
A question was asked about the volume of employment-based I-485 Application for Adjustment of Status cases pending with NSC as of April 2008. Also asked was how many of the cases had current priority dates. The NSC advised that they had, at that time, approximately 190,000 EB I-485s. They also clarified that they do not track cases solely by priority date. While we are aware that cases were not tracked by priority dates, from the questions we receive, it is worth reiterating to our readers. Our firm see questions, frequently accompanied by outrage, asking why I-485 cases with later priority dates are approved prior to those with earlier priority dates. The answer is simply that the USCIS service centers do not re-sort or track I-485s solely based upon priority dates. Case processing is based upon filing date, but I-485s cannot be approved if the priority date is not current. I have bought stamps/envelops and printed # of letters by myself and going desk to desk and urging Desi's to sign and send letters.

Note: These details may be true. Last month we had heard such information but not in detail and thus had not posted it. We were hoping to get this news within 6-8 weeks (As per oour note on http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14749). There are efforts to make name checks current and that is good news for everyone waiting for several years in the namecheck blackhole. It will also help recent applicants who might be getting into this problem.

When you change jobs after 485 Filing, is it necessary to change with an EAD or I can get an H1B transfer. I may get laid off, and EAD has not come yet and I don't have the time for EAD to come through. Can I transfer H1B while 485 is pending for less than 180 days without it affecting 485. I will make sure that job duties are similar and I am fairly certain that employer will not revoke I-140. My assumption if that I need to be working on H1B or EAD to maintain legal immigration status and there can't be any gap between the two employments.

My spouse is landing here on Aug 15. That leaves only one day to get medicals done. Any suggestions on how to handle this ? Can she skip skin test and take X-rays directly ?
If you talk to your medical office in advance to see that if they can give report in one day then it could be possible. Also you may consider your wife to get all vaccination in advance from the place where she is staying currently. Can't she prepone her trip by 1-2 days?

Can you explain why EB2 ROW is flowing to EB3 and not to EB2 India?
It's just a decision that state department makes. I'm not saying it's justified. I'm not saying that's how it should be.
I think the logic is that when India EB2 became Unavailable and EB2-RoW was Current (for example in Sept Bulletin: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_3009.html
If EB2 RoW were flowing into EB3 RoW, this would not have been possible.
I think it's an attempt to bring EB3 on par with EB2 (this is just my guess).
