Because of all these experiences, even when you genuinely smile or strike a conversation with a desi, he/she first suspects you to be an ammway guy. I face it everyday, being "outgoing extrovert" in nature, I tend to smile and talk to people in elevators, walkways, malls, restrooms, groceries etc... which is mostly casual fun stuff and most times desis suspect that I am a ammway guy and cut me out harshly.
When I moved to Cali about 2 yrs back from the midwest, I saw a guy at a desi store in the bay area who looked very similar to an old school friend whom I have not seen in 14 yrs. I went upto him and started talking to him asking if he was the same guy, He insulted me and avoided me like the plague. In midwest, I have not had any similar exp when I have tried stiking any conversation with a desi, so I was shocked. Then my BIL who had been living in the bay area for a while tole me about amway cons being in huge numbers and the fact that Desis do not trust anyone in the bayarea who appear friendly and the probable reason why this guy behaved the way he did. It is sad that we cannot be friendly to our own countrymen.

I am developing a general framework in which you can plug in your own traumatic experience. The following is a good start. Please develop your own writeups.
From then on it was a scramble to fulfill a long list of requirements to be able to apply on time. The first task was for my husband to convince his HR to sponsor the process. Since they had already budgeted for the fiscal year and are on a spending freeze , it took a lot of convincing . The HR complied and gratefully we set out to get our Medical exams (at own cost of 150*2).Since we live in a small state with few doctors we drove 2 hours to a neighboring state to get them on time.
Being a mother of 3 small kids, I could not work on important paper works with them around. So after putting them to bed we spent the entire night pulling out the required documents from archives and placing them in order; numerous phone calls to parents back in India to collect their date of birth, place of birth information and completed the questionnaire.
Got passport pictures(60$) and mailed it all to our lawyers praying it will be one of the first to reach the department office on start of business on July 2nd.
The following are very good points that need more polish! The main point here is that we really can not understand this CRAP wih all other things in life which Americans are not facing!
We are raising families here, our everyday life is no different from any other AMERICAN middle class family with same expectations and hopes, so its not easy to presume that we can pull out or get out of this situation and return to our home countries.

Asking for exemption from quota will cause this proposal to fail. My suggestion:
Of the 10,000 available visas per year for EB5, only about 3k to 4k are being used. How about if one buy a house and give a minimum $100,000 cash payment (not credit in US), he will get a temporary greencard from the EB5 visa pool. If after 2 years, the house is occupied and owned by the same person without problems with credit, he will get a permanent GC. This is on top of meeting the requirements of the category he is in.
Sorry for bringing EB5 in my comments.

My sister is in India right now and she says that she's having problems with power failures, flooding in the area where she lives, and other problems. That's not any different from our country when we don't have water for hours almost every single day, plus everything that has been said here that is inconvenient.
So I would say like others have said in this forum. Think about your kids and the future of your family before making such an important decision since it's not only about us.

I still believe in EB2 will try to catch up current by next October.

I was a little surprised to see a dip in LC approvals in 2005 and there was a recent news report that 2008 also shows a similar dip indicating the declining incentives to keeping jobs/people here. If the current trend continues, we should see more visas available for the backlog reduction and more GC approvals should come in 2H09.

Do not overanalyze any bill- All these bills are mere drafts until they come on floor for debate, and even after that they go thru amendments, rewriting, and the final bill comes out in most cases to be very different from the original. Even after the bill is passed in both houses, the committees that are responsible in reconciling the bill will tweak it and fine tune it.
This means that even good provisions can be deleted at any time during the debate, thru an amendment lobbied by the antis- if the EB Community is not vigilant.
To give you an insight: In Dec 2005, there was a line item in a bill that would have recaptured visas for EB applicants, the bill was passed � and at the last minute this provision was deleted.
IF you read through the provisions and the paper that IV created for lobby days in July 2010- Each one of the provisions and the underlying text that IV is asking for has been written with clear understanding of the issues EB applicants face- It is written in a way that if incorporated in any of the bills as an amendment- will give fair and balanced numbers to all categories -EB3, EB2.
So, regardless of which bill (Immigrant friendly) comes on the floor- IV will lobby to have this package included as an amendment. Or IV will lobby to get this inserted into the main bill.
So- Please, do not get worked up about EB3 vs EB2. OR India vs China vs World
The real work is to be vigilant about what bill has the chance to come on the floor and then lobby to get the amendments included.
There are bigger issues for our community- Not one immigrant friendly bill has come up for debate in the last 4 years (exception is the dream act). And here the IV Community is debating and fighting about provisions about one of 100 bills that might never see a chance on the floor.
The big battle is to advocate and lobby at grassroots to get a bill to come on the floor- persuade lawmakers to be cosponsors for a bill that will help us, and then when the bill is up for debate, we can talk about what we should include as amendments or insert in the main bill to make it fair for everybody.

What concerns me is the wil lof IV to do something right for a change. As i said in the inital post (which was long by the way, but sorry i am through in everything i do) the chances of the bill getting debated far less passing is so less it makes no sense to fight now. So all we have right now is dicsussions where me as concerned party in this matter have come up with an idea. Now an idea by definition is just that. begeneining. Our frustration with the US legal immigration and retrogression seems endless. My wife and I are considering immigration prospects to Canada. Can somebody please suggest good responsive lawfirms that could handle a Canadian PR application? We would also appreciate some insight on Canadian immigration prospects for physicians. Thanks
I did on my own. Its a time taking process but you can do it on your own. But if you can spend couple of thousand dollars for convenience then there are alot of law firms availble on internet. Just type in canada immigration lawfirm. You will find what you need.

Can you stop bickering about YSR, the mans gone !!. He has done a lot for backward castes and minorities
(from what i hear, gave reservations), I must say however that he had very bad reputation for being a Goonda during his college days, and a very notorious politician for proselytism. I have been to interior Andhra recently, it felt like I am in Rome, there is a church almost every 10 kms !!, people don't practice Christianity that vigorously over here in the US ! (no offence intended against Christianity). Hopefully folks who covert have a better life, the caste system did treat them very badly.

I am from AP. And my father had first hand experience getting ripped off by this dead mans cronies when they threatened and grabbed my fathers small plot, that he had bought way back in 89, on the out-skirts of Hyd. All it took was one single threatening phone call to my father and my father signed the sale deed for the land the very next day, not asking a single penny in return. His family was more precious to him than the bloody piece of land. My father worked as a clerk in a central govt office. He is a simple man and has no clout.
I am sad that YSR is dead. I wish he survived but with 3rd degree burns and limped out his miserable life for the next 100 yrs.

Dear sir/Madam
This is my Question for traveling with advance parole.
1. came to usa 1999 as b1 visa with my wife.
2. change f1 student (my wife ) me f2 student depend after 4 months.
3. apply for I-485 employment i am principle applicant july 2nd 2007 riceive date and notice date is august 24th 2007 .
4. my wife apply i-824 july 2nd 2007 and she left usa july 14th 2007.
5. i got Ead and advance parole august 30th 2007.
6. i have not started work yet.
7. i had apply for f1 student visa (change of status f2 to f1) july 15th 2007 but denied.
so my question is my I-94 is f2 until d/s is no longer valied or not?
because my wife left uSA after filling my I 485 , is there is any problem travelling with advance parole?
my student change of status is denied so there is any problem to traval with advance parole?
i have not started work yet so there is any problem travelling with advance parole?
i will be really appreciated your kind answer please.

Also, anyone using Murthy/rajiv Khanna might want to ping them and get their thoughts on this. Dont know if it matters, consensus now is that dates can go back mid-month and USCIS can also stop accepting applications.
Like I said, after AILA's memo came out yesterday, all the lawyers who were saying "it wont happen" have suddenly flipped and now they are saying "Anything can happen".
Sometimes I wonder what are we paying them for if we have to send them URL from AILA about various memos and directives? Isnt it a part of job description to keep an eye out on what's going on at USCIS ? It is available on websites for the whole world to see after all. I wonder how efficient these lawyers were when Internet didnt exist and everything was thru phones and postal services.
And ever since the dates got current for the whole world in July, lawyers are snapping back when you email/call them as if its our fault that dates suddenly became current for the whole world ? If its too much burden, then maybe its time to look for some other profession. No one is putting a gun on your head saying : "Be an immigration lawyer".
