Your first mistake is criticizing IV and its strategy on a open forum. The core listens to only ideas from active volunteers and donors and incorporates their suggestions, not a free loader, day dreamer who thinks he/she is brilliant. What any one else says on forums doesn't make any difference.
You think that by arguing on the forum, you can come up with a better idea.
So in a way you're just throwing eggs at IV. All you talk for the last 2 days is just wasting everyones time.
If you want IV to listen to you, you must have actively worked with them in the last 4 years, gained knowledge about advocacy and their trust and only then can they consider any of your ideas.

This is a message for other members too, if you want core and management to listen to your ideas, be active in your state chapter and many mail groups we have working on intiatives, rather than cursing on forums.

Ahhh my friend no one is asking for core to implement this suggestion. The suggestion was for discussion. Now all we had is name calling but no dicsussion. I hve not had even one esteemed member and donort and volunteer explain to me why this idea is a bad idea

#1 Landed in Texas in late 90's at a friends place. Friend took me to get SS# next day, dropped me at SS office during his lunch time and came in the evening at SS office to pick me up. While waiting outside, in a span of 20 minutes, had two people (one desi and another a colored person) approach me trying to befriend me...obviously I fall for it, second day and I meet such a nice person , offering me help if I needed. etc. Asked me for my cell or home #, I did not have any (was only going to stay at friends for few days and then going to Phoenix), so, i managed to get their business cards and I promised to call them.
In the evening, friend picked me up, told him what happened, he laughed and said "they already got you....unbelievable..hit in just one day of landing... I asked him to explain what was going on, he said he explained me everything. He mentioned that his brother-in-law will be at his home in the evening for dinner (an IBO), and asked me to tell him that I was not interested as I wanted to focus on career first. We go inside, he introduced to his BIL, BIL immediately asked me when I came and what I do, and that he has an excellent business offer for me, which he would discuss with me after dinner. My friend blinked at me, I told him that I had a business proposal for him as well. He was surprised and asked me what it was. I told him that when I was in India, I was a IBO and I wanted him to be an IBO, after listening to what I had to say.
He and my friend were astonished, my friend and his wife were laughing. BIL said he was going to talk about the same thing to me, I said, I am tired and if he already is a IBO, I will not talk about it at all, as I would rather sleep (jet lag). Got rid of him easily...
Incident #2: After moving to Phoenix in 8 days, landed at my Desi consultant's, got a 2 Bedroom townhome shared by total of4 people. One of them was active in AMWAY...asked me if I wanted to go to a business meeting followed by Tea/snacks. I told him I could come only if he stops by grocery store first as I wanted to buy stuff. I did not have car so needed his help for groceries etc. I went with him and few of other FOBs that he had managed to "capture" (New Bakras for him). Went to his friends house who was a new IBO and hosting tea party/(Bakra kato seminar) first time, so he had lot of food/snacks etc. I enjoyed the snack, slept in the mkt. speech. ate good food. Told him that I was already an IBO when the form signing ceremony started, friend was mad why I did not tell him, I told him that I should be mad at him for wasting my time and not telling me where and what this meeting was about. Had a fun at his expense :-)
in couple of weeks moved to Mid North East, where I did not face any AMWAY/QUI guy/s.

Human nature is what tends to create the monopoly. That's the reason for having laws, we know favorism will always exist but a law would prevent it from going over the limit. The way you want it we'll have whites-only-business, asians-only-business and so on..
When you are tired of this discussion you should ask to stop the ones who started it saying their people are better and brighter than others and hence deserve larger immigration volume, before you ask to stop the people who answer them.
I beleive that there should be more representation of people from other countries in desi companies, but when more number of desis apply for jobs. Is it any fault of the company is they are hiring only them?.

I am a little unclear on all of the retrogression ect. But can someone please explain how EB3 ROW can be retrogressed and not use all of the visa numbers in a year? That doesnt even make sense to me? Would someone please shed some light?
I have the same question. State dept advances the date just so that the available visas are used up for that category by the end of the fiscal year. If a category is retrogressed, then it can't really be "undersubscribed". Maybe there's more to it than what meets the eye here?
The following was listed at the bottom of the page in the March VB in state dept's website:
The cut-off date movement for March in several Employment categories has been greater than those experienced in recent months. Advancement of the cut-off dates at this time should prevent a situation later in the fiscal year where there are large amounts of numbers available but not enough time to use them. If the expected increase in CIS number use materializes, future cut-off date movements could slow or stop.
In the past, state dept guesstimated the demand for visas and changed the dates accordingly. Now that USCIS has almost everyone's I-485 application (those who were able to file by August 2007), logic would dictate that the state dept calculates these date movements based on feedback from USCIS. But maybe that isn't the case. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Grassley bill will not close the door for immigrants but will decrease substanially from 200k(H1+L1) to 80k. But retrogession will go down and those 80k will have less problem in getting green card. You can chose whether to allow unlimited L1 and 125K h1b and 10 to 15 years waiting time or allow 30K L1 + 50K H1b and 3 to 5 years waiting time in green card. Which option will be better for you? If your skills are not good certainly you will not want any restrictions. If your skills are excellent you will survive whatever restrictions they put. They cannot reduce H1b below 65k as that is a part of WTO. So there is no one can block H1b program.

If this thread (forum) was a court room. It would have been declared by Judge that YSR is indeed the most corrupt politician AP had and pending further investigation all the occupied & grabbed lands, wealth be ordered to pay to the victims. In addition, the Judge would put a life time ban his Son from active politics.
I hope all posters, readers will condemn corruption and blood politics and see US system (for we being in US) as an example for India. No one can better understand American system than us and how it can be modulated to fit into India.

If the law is followed in the enforcement then that is fine. Integrity of H1b program will be maintained. If arbitary and against the law then that should not be followed.

Wow. Nice to see so many Bay area folks with bad experience. When i moved to Folsom, CA from Arizona in 2005 and knew no one at Folsom, I was in a Indian grocery store buying stuff and this guy comes to me and starts talking to me nicely.. At that point i did not know about this Amway Crap and infact stayed at the same apartment complex where i was staying. he invited me for tea and started talking about how to beocme your own boss etc.. Thats about it. I politely told him i am not interested and unfortuantely i gave him phone number at that time just to keep in touch and with the only reason not to be rude. He Kept on calling me 2-3 times in a week over two weeks and had to literally be very blunt and really rude to stop harassing me! Thats the end of it.

Other countries donot have large enough economies to absorb as many immigrants as the US does...The US accepts 800K + immigrants every year..

Collin Powell incident is America's problem. Even after the civil rights movement and equality to Blacks, they are still having discrimination. Just ask Black people in America and how they feel in their daily life.
So according to you by coming to America we should forget India because you will call us traitor? Have you heard how Jews in America are so strong and care for Israel even after becoming US citizens?
The fact is Indians are responsible for their own problems and greencard woes. They want to live in this sorry state and blame everyone else around them except themselves. They do not have any pride in their roots and thus flee their own country. They do not come to this country for betterment of their skills, education and experience but because they want to flee the country. There maybe exceptions but this is what I have seen in Indians who are on H1B or who have become US Citizens.
There could be several reasons for people coming here. But most and primary reason is making some quick money and returning back. And a good portion of that money goes back to our motherland to prosper. People didn't flee the country. They flew out of the country because their skills are valued more elsewhere - its simple demand supply economics that made/makes our skills more valued outside - I don't want to eloborate more and hurt someone which definitely wasn't the intention.
IF we are after the GC, its purely for the mobility and assurity it provides and not for the path to citizenship. Though most of them want to return back, we still want the GC so we call the shots and not the INS. Long story short, no one is a traitor. They are just common 'smart' people - yah, they are common from the land we come from.

Leave it to us 'Skilled' folks to shred an idea before implementing it. What is the harm in mailing out a letter. We tend to focus on bringing out the negatives and keep discussing issues till the train passes us by.
The bailout plan is a short window of opportunity, what is wrong in sending out some emails, we are not the only ones doing this there are hundreds of organizations trying to get their word in edgewise.
(I for one am even willing to write a proposal to 'buy' a GC, if EB applicant is waiting for more than 5 yrs since his/her PD, they can pay 10-15 grand to fast track application irrespective of the fact that the PD is current or not. USCIS stands to make 2 billion. I prefer paying 10k to uscis instead of the yearly drain towards my lawyers SLK.)

You are absolutely right. I don’t understand these people who keep comparing US with Canada and there are fair number of these people.
The reason you came to US and didn’t go to Canada (or any other country for that matter including your home country) because you prefer to stay in US and you like what it has to offer you. So obviously you’ll always find something that you don’t like in other countries. This is not to say that any one country is better or worse than any other but you came here because you feel that this country has more to offer you than other countries and that could be a very subjective decision. Trust me there are plenty of people who would never want to migrate to US.
Having said that lot of us are thinking about leaving because US is making harder and harder for people like us to stay here and lot of us don’t want to put our lives on hold for years and years hoping that may be one day I’ll hit the jackpot called green card. On the other hand, lot of us don’t mind waiting and have been waiting for long time. It’s a matter of preference. Remember you are supposed to be a guest here. Do your work and get the hell out of here. Only 140000 guests are allowed to stay back and rest have to pack their bags. I mean that’s the real intent behind this quota system.
To make long story short, for lot of people US is not the option available on the table so quit comparing US against others. Just think about where you might end up if you didn’t move to Canada and compare that country against Canada.

If you compare US to canada you are all set for disappointment. The taxes are higher and jobs are definitely harder to find. Eveything is a little more expensive compared to US. (If you look at books CDN prices are always higher). But on the other hand, houses are way cheaper. What cost 600 K in SF Bay Area costs 350 K in Toronto suburb.
Canada still has a higher standard of living than Europe/Australia. I recently met someone who's been in Canada for 40 years and he told me that the highest tax bracket is 35%. It used to be 45% about 10 years ago.
Anyway, compare with going back home not US.
The reason you came to US and didn’t go to Canada (or any other country for that matter including your home country) because you prefer to stay in US and you like what it has to offer you. So obviously you’ll always find something that you don’t like in other countries. This is not to say that any one country is better or worse than any other but you came here because you feel that this country has more to offer you than other countries and that could be a very subjective decision. Trust me there are plenty of people who would never want to migrate to US.
Having said that lot of us are thinking about leaving because US is making harder and harder for people like us to stay here and lot of us don’t want to put our lives on hold for years and years hoping that may be one day I’ll hit the jackpot called green card. On the other hand, lot of us don’t mind waiting and have been waiting for long time. It’s a matter of preference. Remember you are supposed to be a guest here. Do your work and get the hell out of here. Only 140000 guests are allowed to stay back and rest have to pack their bags. I mean that’s the real intent behind this quota system.
To make long story short, for lot of people US is not the option available on the table so quit comparing US against others. Just think about where you might end up if you didn’t move to Canada and compare that country against Canada.

I still find it pretty amazing that so many desis are attracted to Amway. I guess it is the allure of money (which rarely materializes) and being your own boss that gets people hooked. In some cases as you guys have pointed out, both husband and wife "hunt" together for unsuspecting newbies.
While I was an F1 student back in 2001, there were instances of people being driven straight to an Amway meeting the minute they landed at the airport. Apparently some people thought jetlagged newbies to the US would make for a quick sale.
I'm glad this topic is being brought up. We've got to expose this unscrupulous practice.

If this thread (forum) was a court room. It would have been declared by Judge that YSR is indeed the most corrupt politician AP had and pending further investigation all the occupied & grabbed lands, wealth be ordered to pay to the victims. In addition, the Judge would put a life time ban his Son from active politics.
I hope all posters, readers will condemn corruption and blood politics and see US system (for we being in US) as an example for India. No one can better understand American system than us and how it can be modulated to fit into India.

They couldn't do earlier because dates weren't current.. Now dates are current and they can approve all those pending application who were just waiting for visa number to assign..
I don't think that they will APPROVE 40,000 appplications in a week. Well they were unable to do so in an year, how come in a week or two.

if they retrogress mid month.. they retrogress... what can u do about it??
just get ur meds done and file ur paperwork. do your karm...rest u leave it upto whatever spiritual power u believe in.
by discussing this stuff.. u r not going to change uscis or dos's mind... right?
and if it retrogresses mid month...u know AILA and other lawyers will start filing lawsuits...so chill
